SERVING THE MARINER SINCE 1920 - A FRIENDLY VOICE ON MANY A DARK NIGHT
Good to see so many ex-staff at the GKA lecture for the North Sedgemoor Local History Group on the 8th January. Apparently this was the group's highest-ever attendance by some considerable margin. Hopefully everyone who attended enjoyed the talk despite the failure of the video system to operate properly!
More talks will be arranged in due course.
Very sorry to relay the news that former GKA R/O Dave Wheatley passed away on the 18th December. Dave was a popular staff member having joined the station at the end of the 1970s, and was a regular member of the station skittles team. Our sincere condolences to his family.
Sad to advise that former engineer Roger Venner passed away recently. Roger was a highly-skilled engineer who helped in modifying the Marconi-style morse keys used at the station, and also worked on adapting the Racal MA1078 receivers for use in the new building. His wife Ann also worked at the station in the staff restaurant. Our condolences go to his family at this sad time.
Just a reminder that there is a Facebook page which is ONLY for ex-staff and their families. Simply search for "Portishead Radio" and request to join the group after answering a couple of questions. Applications from non-staff or their families will be declined.
